Architect
Thomas Mayo has been involved with the Ipswich Playhouse
Arts & Entertainment Center project since 2004, and
participated as the primary founding member of the
original development team that won the Town of Ipswich
competition to purchase and develop the property. He
continues leading the development team in this important
project. Tom is the founder and principal-in-charge of
Thomas Mayo Associates/Architects and Urban Designers (TMA).
He has been a resident of Ipswich since the mid-70's and
is a registered architect and urban designer with over
30 years experience on a wide variety of projects
ranging from single family residences to the 75-million
dollar Harvard Square rapid transit subway station
complex in Cambridge, MA. TMA was founded in 1978, and
has been headquartered in Ipswich, Massachusetts since
1992.
TMA’s portfolio includes a significant number of
renovation and adaptive reuse projects similar in scope
and scale to the adaptive reuse of the Old Ipswich Town
Hall into the Ipswich Playhouse Arts & Entertainment
Center, including the renovation of the historic Proctor
Estate Gatehouse for New England Biolabs in Ipswich
(MA), design architect for the renovation of the
existing church and new Fellowship Hall & Education
Building for the First Congregational Church of Hamilton
(MA), renovation of the existing church and new
Education Wing Addition for the First Congregational
Church of Essex (MA), the renovation and adaptive reuse
of the old Lake Street fire station into the main
Visitor's Center for the Gardner (MA) Heritage State
Park System, the adaptive reuse of the 1905 Racicot
block into the Commerce Group Insurance Company
Corporate Headquarters Building in Webster (MA), and the
Capitol Theater Urban Renewal Plan for the City of
Pittsfield (MA).
